HRSP12 (Ribonuclease UK114) is predominantly expressed in the adult human kidney and liver. It inhibits translation by cleaving single-stranded mRNA. HRSP12 is mostly localized in the cytoplasm but is occasionally found in the nucleus in less differentiated cells. Reduced expression of HRSP12 in hepatocellular tumors suggests its potential as a biomarker for hepatic carcinoma.
