Description
Keratins are intermediate filament proteins that maintain the structural integrity of epithelial cells. KRT19, a type I keratin, is specifically expressed in the periderm, the superficial layer enveloping the developing epidermis. Due to its high sensitivity, KRT19 is a widely used marker for detecting disseminated tumor cells in lymph nodes, peripheral blood, and bone marrow of breast cancer patients.
