Laser-capture Microdissection (LCM) Technology for Single Cell Isolation

Laser-capture microdissection (LCM) is an advanced and representative technique to isolate individual cells or cell compartments from most solid tissue samples of diverse species. How Does Laser-capture Microdissection Work?

As a new technology, LCM system is a commonly applied method of choice, whenever single cells need to be isolated from solid samples (e.g., tissue, biopsies) typically provided fixed in formalin, embedded in paraffin, or cryo-fixed. Based on optical microscopes coupled with a coaxial cutting laser and computer-assisted control, LCM system can successfully capture and extract cells in all tissue cells on the cap to procure pure populations of targeted cells from specific microscopic regions of tissue sections, which can be used for subsequent single-cell RT-PCR without damaging the enzymatic function. LCM is compatible with a variety of tissue types, cellular staining methods and tissue preservation protocols that allow selective procurement of fresh or archival specimens with the precision of 3-5 mm.
