Magic™ Membrane Protein Hepatitis C virus HCV p7 (Hepatitis C virus p7) (CAT#: MP0017F)

Hepatitis C virus p7 (HCV p7) protein is involved in the viral life cycle including virus assembly and infectivity. It reveals a N-terminal α-helix and two transmembrane segments connected by a short hydrophilic cytosolic segment of 7 amino acids. The p7 protomer is able to oligomerize to a hexameric and heptameric state forming an ion channel.

Q&As

Can HCV P7 be used as a vaccine antigen?

Relevant studies have indicated that HCV p7 can be used as a vaccine antigen.
The main reasons are as follows:
(1) The p7 protein is essential for efficient assembly as well as release of infectious viral particles, and its function can be eliminated by confinement with specific compounds.
(2) p7 is a target of T cells from HCV patients, and immune stress against p7 can drive mutational escape of T cell epitopes in chimpanzees experimentally infected with HCV.
(3) Several amino acids of p7 are conserved in HCV genotypes because they are essential for p7 to interact with other genomic regions in a genotype-specific manner. Regions critical for the structural function of ion channels are highly conserved in genotypes.
