This product is a CCL2 expressing oncolytic herpes simplex virus, which is based on HSV-1 with ICP6 and two copies of ICP34.5 deleted. ICP6 encodes a viral ribonucleotide reductase (vRR) function that allows replication of wild-type HSV to occur even in quiescent cells, such as the neurons. ICP34.5 protein, is important for viral replication, viral exit from infected cells, prevention of the premature shut-off of protein synthesis in the infected host, and neurovirulence. This product can be used in oncolytic virotherapy research and further recombinant HSV construction.

The chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2) is also referred to as monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP1) and small inducible cytokine A2. CCL2 is a small cytokine that belongs to the CC chemokine family. CCL2 recruits monocytes, memory T cells, and dendritic cells to the sites of inflammation produced by either tissue injury or infection.
