SLCO1B7 Membrane Protein Introduction

Introduction of SLCO1B7

SLCO1B7, the official full name is solute carrier organic anion transporter family member 1B7. It is encoded by the SLCO1B7 gene in humans and belongs to SLC21A family of solute carriers. 13 organisms have orthologs with this gene. It’s mainly expressed in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of the liver and is involved in the uptake of organic anions. The truncated protein of SLCO1B7 will be non-functional, and it’s associated with clozapine-associated neutropenia.

Function of SLCO1B7 Membrane Protein

SLCO1B7 is also known as solute carrier family 21 member 21, which belongs to SLC21A family of solute carriers. This gene encodes an organic anion transporter located in the endoplasmic reticulum and plasma membrane. SLCO1B7 mediates cellular uptake of organic anions in the liver specifically. This transmembrane transporter is particularly known for the functional role in pharmacokinetics. The mRNA LST-3TM12 is a functional splice variant transporter of SLCO1B7 in the ER of the human liver. Cellular accumulation of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and estradiol 17β-glucuronide will be enhanced when LST-3TM12 is overexpressed. In addition, SLCO1B7 is associated with adverse drug reactions including docetaxel-induced neutropenia and simvastatin-induced myopathy. Clozapine may lead to serious adverse effect through the relevant biological pathways associated with SLCO1B7.
