Introduction
CpG ODN is a synthetic oligonucleotide that includes unmethylated cytosine-guanine (CpG) dinucleotides within specific sequence contexts. It can lead to strong immunostimulatory effects by Toll-like receptor 9. Class A CpG ODN is characterized by a phosphodiester central CpG-containing palindromic motif and a phosphorothioate 3' poly-G string. It can induce high IFN-α production from plasmacytoid dendritic cells and has been tested as an adjuvant in animal models.
