Introduction
Pseudomonas Exotoxin A (PE) is the most toxic virulence factor of the pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It inhibits elongation factor-2. It does so by ADP-ribosylation of EF2. This then causes the elongation of polypeptides to cease. It has been investigated as a treatment for hepatitis B. The intoxication pathways should not only be used for the construction of PE-based immunotoxins for targeted therapy, but also for the development of strategies to alleviate P. aeruginosa infections.
