Introduction
Mycoplasma pneumoniae, a small bacterium in the class Mollicutes, causes the disease mycoplasma pneumonia, which is a form of atypical bacterial pneumonia related to cold agglutinin disease. Symptoms include tracheobronchitis, primary atypical pneumonia and upper respiratory tract disease. It is 816,394 bp in size and grows exclusively by parasitizing mammals. M. pneumoniae is very susceptible to loss of enzymatic function by gene mutations.
