Introduction
The Nipah Virus, an enveloped negative-strand RNA virus, belongs to the genus Henipavirus. It is zoonotic and can spread in both animals and humans, causing fever, cough, headache, shortness of breath, and confusion. The disease was first identified in Malaysia in 1998 and the virus was isolated in 1999. Other outbreaks have occurred in Singapore, Bangladesh, and India. Fruit bats are the natural reservoirs of the Nipah Virus.
