Gastrin 17

Gastrin 17 is a protein hormone, secreted by the intestine. Gastrin-17 (G-17) is a protein that is specifically secreted from antral G cells, and it has been suggested that its serum level may reflect the severity of antral atrophy more accurately than serum total gastrin. A growing number of recent studies have reported on the utilization of G-17 as a diagnostic biomarker for CAG. G-17 levels are significantly different between atrophy and control groups. G-17 is highly specific in a Caucasian subgroup, but not in an Asian subgroup.
