Creative Biolabs is a pioneer and the undisrupted global leader in establishing type II diabetes NHP models and related research service. Integrated with multiple leading-edge technology platforms, our scientists are experienced in tailoring the most appropriate metabolic disorders models (e.g. type I diabetes, and diet-induced obesity) for our global customers. Our well-characterized NHP disease models are very powerful tools to help facilitate various preclinical programs, especially pharmacodynamics/drug efficacy studies.
Causes and harm of type II diabetes
Type II diabetes (also known as diabetes mellitus type II) is a long-term metabolic disease. It is mainly characterized by 3 famous signatures: insulin resistance, high blood sugar and relative lack of insulin. Common clinical symptoms include increased thirst, increased hunger, frequent urination and unexplained weight loss. Type II diabetes often occurs due to obesity and/or lack of exercise while hypertension, dyslipidemia, and other factors also contribute to the disease onset. Regular exercise and proper eating habits can partly prevent type II diabetes.
Why we use non-human primates (NHPs) models to study type II diabetes?
Non-human primates are known to highly resemble humans in genetic background, organ system structure, evolutionary history, biophysical functions, etc. Just like humans, type II diabetes also represent the most common type of diabetes in NHPs. It occurs more frequently in elder and/or obese animals and is accompanied by insulin resistance (IR) and impaired glucose tolerance to overt diabetes. Diabetic NHPs also exhibit adverse changes or complications like inflammation, oxidative stress, and protein glycation, etc.
Type II diabetes models provided by Creative Biolabs
The type II diabetes monkey model is the most optimal diabetic disease models and has been widely used for screening for novel/next-generation anti-diabetic agents. Our company provides well-established high-fat diet (HFD)-induced diabetic monkeys with lots of similarities to human diabetics in terms of the disease course and progression. We conduct a full range of measurements to ensure the modeling outcomes as well as investigating drug efficacy, including but not limited to:
