ITGAE

Integrin subunit alpha E (ITGAE), also known as CD103 or HUMINAE, is a protein that belongs to the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family). Most proteins in the transmembrane 4 superfamily are cell-surface proteins characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains.

ITGAE is involved in many cellular signaling pathways. It plays an important role in the regulation of cell activation, growth, development and motility by mediating signal transduction events. ITGAE is highly expressed in a variety of carcinomas, including lung, breast, colon and ovarian carcinomas, making it an appealing target for immunotherapies. In other cases, it is also found to present on normal cells, particularly, endothelial cells.
