Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins, are glycoproteins produced by the immune system in response to invading foreign pathogens (antigens) such as microorganisms and viruses. These Y-shaped proteins can bind and neutralize the antigens with high specificity. In the activation of complement system, there are more than 40 zymogens, receptors, and regulators participating in the enzymatic cascade cleavages.
