Antibodies against intracellular targets have been very difficult to be developed, due to their large size, complex structure, and incompatibility with the intracellular environment. However, there are a lot of intracellular (e.g. nuclear, cytoplasmic, lysosomal, and mitochondrial) proteins that are key regulators of various biological and pathophysiological processes, and can serve as therapeutic targets. In the light that there is high demand but only limited capabilities in developing antibodies that target intracellular proteins, Creative Biolabs has been actively exploring novel technologies for intracellular antibody development.

Research professionals at Creative Biolabs have established two proprietary platforms: Super™ Intrabody Development and Super™ Transbody Development, to fill the gaps in the field. Transbodies (or called cell-permeable antibodies) are antibodies or antibody fragments that can penetrate the cell membrane and be internalized into the target cells, while intrabodies are a class of antibodies or antibody fragments that are expressed in the cells that bear the corresponding intracellular antigens. Both platforms can serve to develop antibodies with custom formats against intracellular targets of interest.
