CDC20 is a cell cycle regulatory protein containing seven WD40 repeats that form a beta-propeller structure, serving as the substrate-recognition subunit of the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) E3 ubiquitin ligase. |
| Function |
CDC20 activates APC/C to trigger the metaphase-anaphase transition by targeting securin and cyclin B for degradation. Its WD40 substrate-binding pocket can be engaged by bifunctional chemical agents to redirect its ubiquitin ligase activity, enabling proximity-induced degradation of neo-substrates while modulating mitotic progression. |
