FKBP1A (FKBP12) is a peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase of the FKBP family, containing a single FKBP domain that binds the immunosuppressant FK506 and rapamycin. It catalyzes protein folding and regulates the activity of multiple signaling proteins. |
| Function |
FKBP12 acts as a molecular chaperone and a regulatory subunit of several signaling complexes including mTOR and TGF-beta receptors. Its ligand-binding pocket can be selectively engaged by bifunctional chemical agents, which redirect it toward proximity-induced ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of target proteins, modulating diverse cellular signaling networks. |
