Flow Cytometry: A Platform for Biomarker Discovery

Given the importance of cell surface proteins as biomarkers of disease, efficient discovery tools are urgently needed. Flow cytometry is a powerful cellular analysis technique, which has proven to be valuable in research and clinical trial environment. Flow cytometry is a highly versatile method that is constantly expanding its field of application, including oncology, autoimmunity, tumor immunology, chemotherapy. Flow cytometry is highly useful not only in the discovery of new biomarkers but also in clinical validation and routine implementation. Flow cytometry simultaneously provides information about the phenotypic and functional characteristics of cells and enables quantification of large numbers of cells and assessment of their activation status, subset distribution, cytokine production profile, and other cellular functions. Furthermore, because flow cytometry allows the performance of many different types of assays, it yields a great deal of information, ranging from the elucidation of action mechanisms to functional assays. This technique plays an important role in the prioritization, verification, and clinical validation of new biomarkers.

Flow Cytometry for Biomarker Discovery at Creative Biolabs

As flow cytometry represents a robust and rapid platform for cell surface protein expression analysis, we have developed a powerful high throughput flow cytometry platform in 96- and 384-well assay format, allowing exploring cell type markers and activation markers in one assay at the single-cell level with high sensitivity and high flexibility. We provide direct expression and comparison analysis of biomarkers using multi-color fluorescence flow cytometry. Our scientists have accumulated extensive experience with various sample types including whole, frozen, and lysed blood, as well as peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).

Biomarkers that we have analyzed include but are not limited to CD3, CD4, CD8, CD11, CD16, CD14, CD18 CD45, CD56, CD64, CD86, CD163, CD206, and CD209. We also have used the platform to identify many cell surface antigens that are influenced by common cell preparation methods such as enzyme digestion, cryopreservation, and fixation.
