  • Phage Display: We employ canine and feline phage display libraries tailored for veterinary use. This enables efficient screening of vast antibody repertoires against IL-13, providing high-affinity candidates suitable for downstream optimization.
  • Single-B Cell Sorting: Our single-B cell sorting capabilities allow rapid identification of murine antibody leads, which can then be engineered and adapted for canine or feline therapeutic use. This platform captures natural antibody diversity and accelerates translation into optimized biologics.
  • Hybridoma Technology: Hybridoma-based discovery remains a powerful and stable method for generating monoclonal antibodies. We leverage this platform to create IL-13-specific antibodies that serve as strong foundations for engineering and therapeutic development.

Why Focus on IL-13?

(Creative Biolabs Authorized)

IL-13 is a type 2 cytokine known for its role in allergic and inflammatory responses. In dogs, IL-13 is a major driver of atopic dermatitis, contributing to pruritus, skin barrier dysfunction, and chronic inflammation. In cats, IL-13 has been implicated in respiratory conditions resembling asthma, where it promotes mucus hypersecretion and airway hyperresponsiveness. Both species may also experience IL-13-related gastrointestinal inflammation, making it a cross-species therapeutic target of significant importance. Targeting IL-13 allows for the development of biologics that directly address the immunological pathways underlying chronic allergic and inflammatory disease in companion animals.

Mechanism of Action

Therapeutic antibodies targeting IL-13 function by neutralizing the cytokine, preventing it from binding to its receptor complex (IL-13Rα1/IL-4Rα). This interruption halts downstream signaling pathways, such as STAT6 activation, which drive inflammation, mucus production, and tissue remodeling. By inhibiting IL-13 activity, these antibodies restore immune balance, reduce pathological inflammation, and alleviate disease symptoms. In pets, this mechanism provides a more precise and effective treatment approach compared to broad-spectrum immunosuppressive drugs.
