IL-31 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced predominantly by activated T cells and plays a central role in mediating pruritus (itching) and skin inflammation. In dogs, IL-31 is strongly associated with atopic dermatitis, one of the most prevalent chronic skin diseases in veterinary medicine. This condition leads to persistent itching, self-trauma, secondary infections, and reduced quality of life. While IL-31's role in feline dermatologic disorders is less studied, emerging evidence suggests it may contribute to allergic skin disease in cats as well. Mechanism of Action
