  • Phage Display: Our species-specific antibody libraries enable precise selection of high-affinity IL-4 binders that minimize immunogenic risk in pets. Phage display accelerates discovery timelines and broadens the pool of therapeutic options.
  • Single-B Cell Sorting: This platform isolates naturally occurring, antigen-specific B cells. The antibodies serve as excellent starting points for engineering and optimization.
  • Hybridoma Technology: Still an essential tool in antibody generation, hybridoma platforms provide stable, monoclonal antibody-producing clones that can be further optimized for improved pharmacokinetics and therapeutic efficacy.

Why Focus on IL-4?

(Creative Biolabs Authorized)

IL-4 is a cytokine central to the regulation of Th2 immune responses and IgE production, both of which contribute to allergic inflammation. In dogs, IL-4 overexpression is strongly linked with atopic dermatitis and chronic skin conditions characterized by pruritus, erythema, and secondary infections. Cats also demonstrate IL-4–driven pathology in allergic asthma and dermatitis, where immune hypersensitivity results in airway obstruction or persistent skin lesions. These diseases affect quality of life for both pets and owners, with limited long-term treatment options. Neutralizing IL-4 signaling through therapeutic antibodies offers a rational strategy to manage chronic inflammatory and allergic diseases in both species.

Mechanism of Action

IL-4 antibodies exert their therapeutic effect by binding to IL-4 and preventing it from interacting with the IL-4 receptor complex. This blockade interrupts downstream JAK-STAT signaling, leading to suppression of IgE class switching in B cells, reduced mast cell and eosinophil recruitment, and overall dampening of Th2-mediated inflammation. In veterinary contexts, this translates into alleviation of itching, improved skin barrier function, and reduction in airway hyperresponsiveness. By targeting the root cause of allergic inflammation rather than just the symptoms, IL-4 therapeutic antibodies provide a durable and specific treatment solution for companion animals.
