Full Name
Human Herpes Virus Envelope glycoprotein D

Keywords
Human Herpes Virus Envelope glycoprotein D; HSV gD

Background
Glycoprotein D (gD) is one of the five major glycoproteins on the envelope of Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). It plays a critical role in viral entry by binding to specific host cell receptors, including the herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM), nectin-1, and 3-O-sulfated heparan sulfate. gD is essential for both primary infection and cell-to-cell spread of the virus and is a target for antiviral therapies and vaccine development.
