Background
Inulin is a naturally occurring fructan, a class of polysaccharides composed of linear chains of fructose units. It is found in high concentrations in the roots of plants such as chicory, Jerusalem artichoke, and dahlia. Inulin is a type of non-digestible carbohydrate for humans and is widely recognized as a prebiotic, selectively stimulating the growth of beneficial gut bacteria like Bifidobacterium. Because of its prebiotic effects and high fiber content, it is a common ingredient in functional foods and dietary supplements.
