Full Name
Lewis X trisaccharide

Keywords

Background
Lewis X trisaccharide (also known as LeX) is a specific carbohydrate epitope consisting of a trisaccharide structure. It is a key blood group antigen found on the surface of various cells, including leukocytes and tumor cells. Lewis X and its sialylated form (Sialyl-Lewis X) are crucial for cell-to-cell recognition and are particularly important as ligands for selectins, a family of adhesion proteins that mediate the rolling of immune cells to endothelial cells during inflammatory responses.
