Targets of Delivery Systems

Modules developed by Creative Biolabs provide structural, targeting, and therapeutic functionality and can assist in overcoming delivery barriers of traditional pharmaceuticals. With integrated module development and engineering techniques, a series of targeting modules for different targets are developed, including modules designed for diseases such as common cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, central nervous system (CNS) disease, different inflammatory diseases for organs, such as heart, liver, kidney, brain and lung, as well as for subcellular organelles such as mitochondria, nucleus and so forth. Creative Biolabs is committed to providing a wide range of customized delivery systems development services and offering solutions tailored to our customers' unique specifications.

Modules such as peptides, scaffolds proteins are instrumental in directing the use of different cytotoxic reagents for medicine or disease treatment because biological specificity, therapeutic function, as well as structural properties can be incorporated through rational design. Moreover, their inherent biocompatibility and biodegradability make them especially attractive as materials intended for use in vivo. Besides, the combination of modules and different module delivery systems provides a powerful strategy in overcoming delivery barriers of many traditional pharmaceuticals. Unlike antibodies, modules are small enough to fit into a shallow or hydrophobic binding pocket without compromising specificity or affinity.

Targeting module emerged in an effort to more efficiently and safely diagnose and treat diseases. Module design continues to evolve as our understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of disease is better understood. By targeting unique disease biomarkers, module-payload complexes have the potential to enhance the delivery and activity of therapeutic or diagnostic agents, while minimizing toxicity and harmful side effects to patients. To date, a variety of targeting modules for diseases have been tested preclinically.

Differences between normal and diseased states in cell types and tissue is very common. With the unique characteristic of targeting different cells such as endothelial cells, monocytes, and macrophages in specific organs or tissues, modules can be conjugated to molecular imaging agents to follow expression of the targeted biomarker during treatment. Furthermore, by attaching appropriate cell-targeting module to therapeutic agents, drug administration will be performed more precisely.

Active tumor-targeting approaches using specific module have drawn considerable attention over the years. Sometimes, module-drug complex accumulation in cancer cells does not necessarily lead to an efficient therapeutic outcome because a single module cannot overcome both cellular and subcellular barriers at the same time. Under this circumstance, modules that are active subcellularly are being developed. Modules developed by Creative Biolabs can achieve targeting nucleus, cytosol and mitochondria, or dual targeting of the cancer cell surface and subcellular mitochondria. These modules could be also conjugated onto different carriers to play the full role of the module.

Different types of pathogenic microorganisms pose a great threat to human health. Therefore, it is critically necessary for us to continuously pursue ongoing exploration to develop effective approaches or vehicles for microorganisms targeted drug delivery, thereby providing enhanced therapeutic efficacy, decreased side and toxic effects, improved compliance, as well as simple yet efficient therapy.
