Endothelin receptor type B (EDNRB), also known as ETB, ET-B, ETB, ETBR, ETRB, HSCR, WS4A, ABCDS, ET-BR or HSCR2, is a G protein-coupled receptor that belongs to the beta-family of rhodopsin receptors. Mature human EDNRB is a 7-transmembrane glycoprotein and it is 416 amino acids (aa) in length, consisting of a 44 aa C-terminal cytoplasmic domain, and a 75 aa N-terminal extracellular region. The ligand of this receptor, endothelin, consists of a family of three potent vasoactive peptides: ET1, ET2, and ET3. The expression of this protein is found in placental stem villi vessels, but not detectable in cultured placental villi smooth muscle cell. Associated with G proteins, this receptor mediates the activation of a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.
What's more, studies suggest t that EDNRB gene is regulated by the microphthalmia-associated transcription factor in melanocytic cells and mutations in this gene are associated with multigenic disorder, Hirschsprung disease type 2
