IL17RA

IL17RA, also called CD217 or IMD51, is a ubiquitous type I membrane glycoprotein that binds to interleukin 17A (IL17A) with low affinity. IL17A is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by activated T-lymphocytes. And it is also a powerful inducer of the maturation of CD34-positive hematopoietic precursors into neutrophils. Interleukin 17A and its receptor IL17RA serve an important role in a number of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis. Just the same as other cytokine receptors, IL17RA may have a multimeric structure.
In general, the IL-17RA gene is constitutively expressed in a variety of human cell types, for example, B cells, the lung epithelial cells, and myelomonocytic cells. It has also been reported that activation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) via IL-17A leads to up-regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase and COX-2 genes. Moreover, activation of IL-17RA and IL-17RB result in the activation of JNK, p38 MAPK, and NF-jB, which modulate the expression of genes responsible for the inflammatory and remodeling processes in asthma.
