CCR4

C-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CCR4), also known as CD194, CKR4 or CMKBR4, is a protein in humans encoded by the CCR4 gene. This protein is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family, and it's a receptor for the following CC chemokines: CCL2 (MCP-1), CCL4 (MIP-1), CCL5 (RANTES), CCL17 (TARC), and CCL22 (macrophage-derived chemokine). Chemokines are a class of small structurally related proteins regulating cell trafficking of a variety of leukocytes. The chemokines serve an essential part in the development, homeostasis, and function of the immune system. They are highly associated with cells of the central nervous system and endothelial cells related to angiogenesis or angiostasis.
Mostly, CCR4 is expressed by Th2 cells, Treg cells, and cutaneous lymphocyte antigen-positive skin-homing T cells, among a variety of T-cell subsets. Therefore, CCR4 may play an essential role in clinical applications in diseases associated with these T-cell subsets. Besides, CCR4 is generally highly expressed via mature T-cell neoplasms, for example, adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) and cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs). In addition, CCR4 was expressed at high levels by skin-infiltrating lymphocytes, and only the high CCR4 levels characteristic of skin lymphocytes were related to robust chemotactic.
