CD180, also known as RP105 and lymphocyte antigen 64 (LY64), is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the family of pathogen receptors, Toll-like receptors (TLR). CD180 molecule consists of a short cytoplasmic tail and extracellular leucine-rich repeats (LRR) that is associated with a molecule called MD-1 to form the cell surface receptor complex, RP105/MD-1.
CD180 is expressed mainly on mature B cells and macrophages and is detected in spleen, lymph node and appendix.
By working in concert with TLR4, The cell surface RP105/MD-1 controls B cell recognition and signaling of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), thus regulates the innate immune response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a membrane constituent of Gram-negative bacteria in B cells. And it has been shown that the activation of RP105 complex is related to B-cell proliferation inducement and protection against apoptosis
