Ephrin-A4 (EFNA4), also known as LERK-4 and EFL-4, belongs to the ephrin ligand family, which binds members of the EPH receptor family. Ephrins are divided into the ephrin-A (EFNA) class and the ephrin-B (EFNB) class based on the different structures and sequence variations.
Recent studies have shown that EFNA4 may associate with the interaction between activated B lymphocytes and dendritic cells in tonsils. According to these previous studies, it may also play an essential role in angiogenesis.
EFNA4 expression has been observed to occur in the adult spleen, lymph node, prostate, ovary, small intestine, and colon, and in fetal heart, lung, liver and kidney. The expression of this protein is also detected in hematopoietic cell lines.
