EphA4

EPHA4, also known as SEK, HEK8, or TYRO1, is the receptor for members of the ephrin-A family. It binds to ephrin-A1, -A4 and -A5. Receptors in the EPH subfamily typically have a single kinase domain and an extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain and 2 fibronectin type III repeats.

Previous studies revealed a connection between EPHA4 and the neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), where a defective gene allows ALS patients to live considerably longer than patients with an intact gene.

EPH-related receptors have been involved in mediating developmental events in the nervous system. Also, it may play a role in a signal transduction process associated with hindbrain pattern formation.
