HAVCR1

Hepatitis A virus cellular receptor 1 (HAVCR1), also known as T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 1 (TIM1), CD365…, is a membrane receptor for both human hepatitis A virus (HHAV) and TIMD4. The encoded protein plays critical roles in regulating immune cell activity, especially regarding the host response to viral infection. HAVCR1 may also be involved in the moderation of asthma and allergic diseases.

HAVCR1 protein is comprised of an N-terminal immunoglobulin (Ig)-like domain, a mucin domain, a single transmembrane domain, and a C-terminal short cytoplasmic tail. The localizations and functions of HAVCR proteins are divergent between each member. HAVCR1 is preferentially expressed on Th2 cells and it has been identified as a stimulatory molecule for T-cell activation. In the meantime, it is demonstrated to be widely expressed in many tissues and organs, with highest levels in kidney and testis. HAVCR1 is expressed by activated CD4+ T-cells during the development of helper T-cells responses.
