RTN4

Reticulon 4 (RTN4), also known as Nogo or NSP, encoded by RTN4 gene, has three major isoforms (Nogo-A Nogo-B and Nogo-C) by alternative splicing. It is a member of reticulon family which exerts an essential role in regulating cell apoptosis and suppress tumor development. Moreover, reticulons also participate in membrane transport or neuroendocrine secretion in neuroendocrine cells. Besides, the RTN4, also as an effective neurite outgrowth depressor, can assist to interrupt the regeneration of the central nervous system in higher vertebrates.
The RTN4 is widely expressed in multiple human tissues, including fat, brain, adrenal, kidney, liver, prostate, skin, small intestine, urinary bladder and 17 other tissues. A number of studies have been shown that RTN4 is associated with the progression of the various tumors, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), malignant melanoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, colorectal cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, through regulating apoptosis of tumor cells. These suggest that RTN4 can be considered as a therapeutic target to apply to treat the kinds of tumors. And a recent research has been revealed that Nogo-B may be a novel anti-HHC therapeutic target.
