SELL

Selectin L (SELL), also known as CD62L or TQ1, encoded by SELL gene, is a cell surface adhesion molecule which is a member of adhesion/homing receptors family. The adhesion molecule possesses four major regions, a lectin-like region, a calcium-binding epidermal growth factor-like domain, and two short complement-like repeats. The SELL protein exerts a key role in regulating rolling adhesion of leucocytes on endothelial cells, promoting leucocytes to move to secondary lymphoid organs and inflammation sites.
The SELL is widely expressed in multiple human tissues, such as lymph node, spleen, appendix, bone marrow, gallbladder, urinary bladder. A number of studies have been shown that SELL is associated with various diseases, including immunoglobulin A nephropathy, acute coronary syndrome, multifocal leukoencephalopathy, HIV-1 disease, atopic dermatitis, primary Sjogren's syndrome. Moreover, the binding of SELL and its ligand induces a signal to mediate tumor cells migration and lots of studies have been made to identify the SELL can be regarded as a promising therapeutic target of anti-tumor migration therapy.
