Mice are common experimental animals in laboratory research of biology and pharmacology. They belong to the order Rodentia and have been firstly used in biomedical research since 16th century. Currently, mice are recognized as the most commonly used mammalian model organism, more common than rats. They are one kind of mammals and share a high degree of homology with humankind. Virtually, the sequencing analysis of mouse genome has shown that all mouse genes have human homologs, and they have similar antibody isotypes (IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM) with humans. Thereby, this close relationship, their ease of maintenance and handling, and their high reproduction rate, make mice particularly suitable models for human-oriented research. Some illegal manipulation with humans can be aboveboard applied for laboratory mice, and obtain data which highly similar or referable with that from humans, especially in physiology, genetics and immunology realm. In the booming field of drug discovery, laboratory mice are relied on both clinical animal test and monoclonal antibodies development.
The mouse monoclonal antibodies are widely used for therapeutics and pathology researches, but may sometime be limited to their specificity and affinity.
