Combination of Immune Checkpoint Therapy with Conventional Cytotoxic Agents

The immune defense and therapeutic activity of antibodies in oncology have been extensively demonstrated to be one of the most useful agents for antitumor treatments, after chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and small molecule inhibitors. Most of the antibodies on immuno-oncology therapies have positive health effects as long as the antibody exists in the blood of patients. The clinical applications of antibodies directly against antigens don’t present on the tumor cells, but on cells of the immune system (i.e., immune checkpoint antibodies), indicating the beneficial outcomes of treatment, which persisted even after it’s finished. To be noticed, Creative Biolabs has tested a variety of rational combination therapy strategies, in particular, the immune checkpoint therapy with conventional cytotoxic agents to fight against severe diseases and malignant tumors.

Overviews

A major breakthrough in cancer immunotherapy is the discovery of immune checkpoint proteins. These molecules present on certain immune cells that need to be activated or inactivated to effectively inhibit the immune system through many different mechanisms. Cancer cells sometimes find ways to take advantage of checkpoints to avoid being attacked by immunity. Thus, drugs that target checkpoint proteins hold a lot of promise as valuable treatments for cancers. Cytotoxic agents were originally described for their ability to interfere with nucleic acid and protein synthesis in malignant cells. More evidence that these agents might also suppress the immune system leads to their use in immune-associated diseases. The most commonly used conventional cytotoxic drugs are azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, mycophenolate mofetil, etc. Nowadays, it is of especial interest that checkpoint therapy combined with cytotoxic agents functions significantly in most clinical trials.

Combination Therapy Strategies at Creative Biolabs

These are a number of efficient therapies that use a combination of agonistic antibodies or antibody-based molecules with other biological substances, such as, cytotoxic drugs. Conventional cytotoxic agents are a type of chemotherapeutic drugs unspecifically affecting cell proliferation and survival. The majority of these approaches are designed to stimulate the host immunity to act against cancer cells. As a well-recognized company in the antibody development market, Creative Biolabs has established versatile, flexible strategies to accomplish distinct therapeutic combinations for global clients. The drug agents can be provided for conjugation therapy is listed as below.

Creative Biolabs also provides biological agents, for example, recombinant proteins, genetic materials, cytokines, bacteria, viruses, and cells (e.g. effector cells), coupled with checkpoint antibodies for many cancer treatments.

Advantages

The cumulative findings demonstrate that anti-checkpoint antibodies are able to reprogram the organism’s immune response, redirect the antitumor immune reaction, and skew the balance on the tumor microenvironment toward the tumor’s immune destruction. As such, checkpoint molecules allow to envisage a cure for cancer. Here, Creative Biolabs offers a series of combination therapy services that simultaneously use immune checkpoint and cytotoxic drugs, showing a potentially curative option for more cancer cases and animal disease models.
