Magic™ Cell-free Protein Expression in Wheat Germ lysate Kit is a cell-free protein synthesis system using wheat germ extracts for membrane protein production. By adding liposomes, artificially-prepared spherical lipid vesicles, to the translation reaction, membrane proteins are directly inserted into the lipid bilayer of the liposome to form proteoliposome complexes. Proteoliposomes can be easily isolated by centrifugation and offer convenient tools to study protein functions. Moreover, proteoliposomes can be directly used in immunization experiments to prepare antibodies directed against membrane proteins.
