Creative Glyconanoparticle™ provides a simple and environmental friendly method to prepare glyconanoparticles (GNPs). Nanoparticles functionalized with glycans can be applied as powerful solid-phase chemical tools for the study of protein–carbohydrate interactions using nanoscale properties for detection of binding events. This method allows the easy synthesis of stable glyconanoparticles with reduced dispersion and controlled size. Creative Glyconanoparticle™ was developed to boost up the study and applications of carbohydrates in glycobiology, biomedicine and material science.
Mammalian cell surface is covered by an extremely dense layer of glycans named glycocalyx. These complex glycans are proved to be involved in the control of many physiological and pathological processes (e.g. cancer cells over express glycoproteins and glycolipids at their outer cell membranes). Biological interactions where glycans are involved are featured as their extreme low affinity that has to be compensated by multivalent presentation of the ligands. Glyconanoparticles are newly developed products that provide good biomimetic models of glycan presentation at the cell surface to study and evaluate interactions between biomolecules and glycans.
Scientists from Creative Biolabs have developed a unique strategy to prepare nanoparticles functionalized with biologically relevant glycans. This method allows the facile synthesis of stable gold nanoparticles of reduced dispersion and controlled size. By modifying the surface, five different types of nanoparticles functionalized with glycans are provided: Gold / Silver glyconanoparticles, Glyco-quantum dots, Magnetic glyconanoparticles, Glyconanoparticles with PEG derivatives, and Glyconanoparticles with streptavidin derivatives. Our glyconanoparticles have received considerable attention due to their stability, suspensibility in different solvents, as well as the facile characterization by standard analytical techniques.
