Antigen Detail

TargetFGF9
DescriptionGlial activating factor is a protein encoded by FGF9 gene in humans.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members have a wide range of mitogenic and cell survival activities, and participate in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. The protein was isolated as a secreted factor that exhibited growth-stimulating effects on cultured glial cells. In the nervous system, this protein is mainly produced by neurons and may be important for the development of glial cells. It was found that the expression of mouse homologues of this gene depends on the signal of sonic hedgehog (Shh). Mice lacking homologous genes show opposite phenotypes of men and women, suggesting their role in testicular embryogenesis. This gene is involved in sex determination, lung development and bone development patterns.
