Mice, as one of the most common rodents, are widely used as basic laboratory animals in various researches, especially in biology, psychology and medicine fields. This species is well-recognized as a kind of mammalian model organism, because of the fully sequenced genome, obviously high gene homology with human and high reproduction rate. Compared with other familiar experimental animals, mice take advantages of their small size, lower feeding cost, ease of maintenance and handling and strong ability to reproduce. Moreover, the genetic research of mice is comparatively mature and there are hundreds of established inbred, outbred and transgenic lines of mice for different experimental studies. For example, BALB/c mouse is one of the main strains used in the research of cancer and immunology.
