PRODUCT INFORMATION

Description
Synonyms: 4-[4-(Dimethylamino)phenylazo]benzoic Acid N-Succinimidyl Ester / N-Succinimidyl 4-[4-(Dimethylamino)phenylazo]benzoate / DABCYL N-Succinimidyl Ester. This is an amine-reactive, non-fluorescent "dark quencher." The NHS ester labels primary amines. DABCYL absorbs broadly in the blue-green region (max ~475 nm) and dissipates the energy as heat instead of light. It is most commonly paired with a fluorophore (e.g., FAM, EDANS) to create "turn-off" probes. When a protease cleaves the linker between the dye and DABCYL, fluorescence is "turned on," making it ideal for enzyme assays.
