Background: Gene editing is now being applied to immune cells, such as CRISPR-Cas9 technology. However, applications to human primary B cells are minimal and limited to activated B cells.
Results: This paper shows how two model genes, CD46 and CDKN2A, are gene-edited in human B cells. CDKN2A encodes the cell cycle regulator p16INK4a, which is an important target for EBV. The study concluded that EBNA3C controls CDKN2A, demonstrating the only barrier to B cell proliferation in EBV-infected cells.
