PRODUCT INFORMATION

Description
Biotin Hydrazide is a biotinylation reagent featuring a terminal hydrazide group (-NH-NH2). The hydrazide group reacts specifically with carbonyl groups (aldehydes and ketones) at a mildly acidic pH (4-5) to form a stable hydrazone bond. This makes it the ideal reagent for labeling biomolecules containing aldehyde handles. Its most common application is the biotinylation of glycoproteins (e.g., antibodies) after their carbohydrate (sialic acid) portions have been selectively oxidized with sodium periodate to generate aldehyde groups.
