Description
Sulfo-NHS is not a crosslinker on its own but an additive used with carbodiimides like EDC. EDC activates carboxyl groups, and Sulfo-NHS rapidly reacts with this intermediate to form a stable, water-soluble Sulfo-NHS ester. This amine-reactive ester has a longer half-life than the EDC intermediate, significantly improving the efficiency of coupling to primary amines. It is ideal for labeling proteins in aqueous buffers while minimizing side reactions.
