Description

This is a monofunctional, thiol-reactive PEGylation reagent. It features a very long, 24-unit polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain, capped at one end with an inert methoxy (m) group and functionalized at the other with a sulfhydryl-reactive maleimide. The maleimide group reacts specifically with thiols (cysteines) at pH 6.5-7.5. This reagent is primarily used to attach a large, hydrophilic PEG shield to proteins or peptides (a process called "PEGylation") to improve their in vivo stability, increase half-life, and reduce immunogenicity.
