In the past few decades, SAXS has gained increasing significance in studies of biological macromolecules. In a typical SAXS experiment, the elastic scattering of X-rays traveling through the sample at small angles (e.g. 0.1o - 10o) is recorded. From the recorded scattering, researchers can obtain the shape, size, molecular weight, and low-resolution (> 1 nm) internal structure of the sample. This technique can be applied to both crystalline and non-crystalline samples with either liquid or solid form.
