Creative Biolabs is recognized as a trustworthy CRO partner by our global clients. With the advanced experimental apparatus, a professional R&D team, and the standardized management system, we have assisted our clients in a lot of study projects on our pharmacology and pharmacodynamics (PD/PK) platform. Our preclinical non-GLP drug development services cover study design, experimental implementation, result analysis, report interpretation, and recommendations for follow-up research directions. We will do our best to help you achieve your research goals.

What is VaD?

VaD is the general term for dementia caused by cerebrovascular damage. It refers to severe cognitive dysfunction syndrome, including the impairment of memory, cognition, and behavior. It is characterized by hypoperfusion of brain areas resulting from ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and cerebrovascular disease. At present, the pathogenesis of VaD is not fully understood. Some researchers believe that VaD is induced by the low blood flow resulting from cerebral artery stenosis or occlusion. Studies showed that high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, coronary heart disease, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia are risk factors for VaD.

Preclinical Tools for VaD Research

The cause of VaD is the lack of blood supply to the brain due to hardening and stenosis of the cerebral blood vessels. Over time, the function of brain cells is reduced or lost, which causes memory function decline and cognitive impairment. The VaD animal models are mainly established by causing the insufficient blood supply to the brain which is followed by secondary memory impairment. Conducting global cerebral ischemia in animals is often used to simulate human VaD. At present, there are two categories of VaD animal models listed below:

Vessel Occlusion Models Multiple Infarcts and Thromboembolism Models
Bilateral CCA occlusion model Thromboembolic multiple infarction VaD model
4VO model Micro-sphere induced multiple infarction VaD model
Unilateral CCA occlusion model Cholesterol crystals induced multiple infarction VaD model
Bilateral CCA stenosis model

The establishment of a VaD animal model is of great significance not only for an in-depth exploration of the pathogenesis and pathological characteristics but also for the development of early diagnosis strategies and treatment for clinical patients.

What Services Can We Provide?

As there are currently no FDA-approved VaD treatment strategies, researchers need to rely on reliable VaD animal models in the development of new drugs. The ideal VaD animal model should mimic the pathological characteristics of human diseases as much as possible. Both NHP and human beings form an arterial ring gently from the carotid artery and vertebral base artery system, which together complete the brain blood supply through its branches, and have similar cerebrovascular anatomical characteristics. Accordingly, the VaD model established in NHPs seems to be a promising disease model for preclinical investigations. Creative Biolabs has successfully established the NHP models of VaD. Besides, we will provide the following related analysis services: cerebral blood flow measurements, MRI imaging, histopathological examination, behavioral experiments, learning and memory assessment, electrophysiological recordings, WB validation, etc.

If you are interested in the NHP models of VaD, please feel free to contact us for further discussions. Creative Biolabs has accumulated lots of experience in the Neurological Disease Model establishment. Our scientists will provide you with scientific solutions to any of your research problems and powerful assistance in your project implementation.
