Creative Biolabs has many years of experience in establishing non-human primate (NHP) cardiovascular disease models and the development of novel therapies. We have specialized platforms and rich experience in model establishment and pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic study. We warmly welcome our customers to consult and discuss their projects with us.

What is Cardiovascular Disease?

The cardiovascular system is composed of the heart, arteries, capillaries, and veins. Cardiovascular disease is a general term for diseases caused by abnormalities in any part of the cardiovascular system, including cardiomyopathy and diseases of the vascular system that supplies the heart, brain, and other vital organs.

Typical Symptoms of Cardiovascular Disease

The typical symptoms vary among different types of cardiovascular diseases. For example, the clinical symptoms of heart failure include chest tightness, coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing at night. While hypertension is manifested by dizziness, headache, fatigue, palpitation, and shortness of breath.

The Important Role of Non-human Primates (NHPs) Models in Cardiovascular Disease

Non-human primates (NHPs) are phylogenetically close to humans among all laboratory animals. NHP has many similarities with humans in physiology, anatomy, immunology, etc., which makes them an excellent experimental model for biomedical research. The well-established NHP models for cardiovascular diseases can further promote the development of the life science and pharmaceutical industry.

Typical Cardiovascular Disease Models Provided by Creative Biolabs

Cardiovascular Disease Models
Primate Atherosclerosis (AS) Model Atherosclerosis (AS) is the main cause of coronary heart disease, cerebral infarction, and peripheral vascular disease. Lipid metabolism disorder is the pathological basis of AS. Our team provides a well-established diet-induced AS model in NHPs. Multiple tests are also provided to assist the research typically including blood lipid metabolism analysis and ultrasound examination.
Primate Thrombosis Model Thrombosis is caused by the body's coagulation and anticoagulant system dysfunction. Creative Biolabs provides venous thrombosis and arterial thrombosis models in NHPs and follow-up tests (bleeding time determination, thrombus weight measurement, blood loss analysis, etc).
Primate Hypertension Model Hypertension is currently defined as blood pressure greater than 140/90mmHg. The NHP model of hypertension can be established using the surgical method. Creative Biolabs is capable of providing the NHP model of hypertension and the related analyses including but not limited to blood pressure measurement, rhythm analysis, hemodynamic measurement, histopathological examination, behavioral tests, etc.
Primate Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) Model Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the complete occlusion of the main coronary arteries, a complete lack of oxygen and nutrients, leading to myocardial necrosis. Creative Biolabs provides acute myocardial infarction models based on the advanced microneurosurgery technique. Endpoint measurements include electrocardiograms, physiological parameters, and MRI imaging.
Primate Heart Failure (HF) Model Heart failure (HF) is characterized by dyspnea, fatigue, and signs of volume overload, which may include peripheral edema and rales in the lungs. HF models in NHPs are available in Creative Biolabs. Multiple tests helping advance the research in HF are also provided in Creative Biolabs including echocardiography, Doppler imaging, histological examination, etc.
Primate Arrhythmia Model Arrhythmia is the main manifestation of cardiac dysfunction. The normal periodicity and regularity of electromechanical activities of patients with arrhythmia are disrupted. The arrhythmia model in NHPs can assist us in understanding the pathophysiology of arrhythmia clinically and developing novel therapies for arrhythmia in humans. Creative Biolabs provides a well-established NHP model of arrhythmia and related tests including biochemistry, histological analysis, etc.
Primate Myocardial Ischemia (MI) Model Myocardial ischemic (MI) is caused by severe damage to the blood supply of the coronary arteries, which can lead to changes in metabolism and ultrastructure, and ultimately cause irreversible damage. Creative Biolabs provides the NHP model of MI established by surgery which is a useful tool for clinical MI research and novel drug development.
Primate Myocardial Fibrosis Model Myocardial fibrosis is caused by collagen scar tissue produced by fibroblasts of the heart. The NHP model of myocardial fibrosis exhibits similar symptoms with patients of myocardial fibrosis and has been considered as a useful tool for myocardial fibrosis research. Creative Biolabs has developed and validated the myocardial fibrosis model in NHPs and also provides multiple related tests.
Primate Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Model Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is an atherosclerosis-driven disease associated with impaired functional capacity and increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Creative Biolabs has successfully established the NHP models of PAD. Besides, we provide the following related analysis services: PET imaging, histopathological examination, behavioral tests, WB validation, etc.
Primate Carotids Arterial Stenosis Model Carotid stenosis is the narrowing of the large arteries in the neck (carotid artery), usually caused by atherosclerotic plaque. Carotid artery stenosis is known to be a risk factor for ischemic stroke. NHP models of carotid arterial stenosis are recognized as powerful preclinical tools to strengthen our knowledge of pathology and advance the development of potential therapies. Creative Biolabs has successfully established the carotid arterial stenosis model in NHPs.
