Creative Biolabs is a professional CRO company with much experience in preclinical drug development. To establish a better platform for investigating the pathogenesis of diseases and evaluating the efficacy of potential drugs, we provide validated NHP disease models for our clients to meet their research requirements.

What is Carotid Arterial Stenosis?

The carotid arteries are primary blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the brain, face, and neck. Carotid artery stenosis is a disease in which the large arteries in the neck become narrowed. The narrowing of the carotid arteries can decrease or even completely block blood flow, which may induce stroke.

Preclinical Tools for Carotid Arterial Stenosis Research

The establishment of stable and reliable animal models is an important prerequisite for studying cerebrovascular diseases. At present, there are various methods and animal species used to establish the carotid artery stenosis models. The common experimental animals are rats, rabbits, pigs, dogs, and NHPs. The incidence of carotid artery stenosis caused by spontaneous atherosclerotic plaques in experimental animals is low, so intervention is often required to establish the carotids, stenosis models. There are many modeling methods, mainly including carotid adventitia implantation with silicone rubber, balloon injury, electrical stimulation, air modeling, ligation, drug induction, etc.

The most frequently used carotid artery stenosis models are established in rats. However, the carotid arteries in rats are quite thin requiring the use of a microscope, which is inconvenient to operate. In addition, It is difficult to induce carotid artery stenosis in rats by feeding. As NHPs can develop the same carotid artery stenosis as humans, they are considered as the ideal experimental animals for carotid arterial stenosis.

What Services Can We Provide?

Creative Biolabs understands the advantages and importance of NHPs in studying carotid artery stenosis, thus has developed this model on primates. In this model, cerebral perfusion and structural and mechanical properties of the arterioles can be assessed using multiple methodologies. The primate carotid artery stenosis model and related services provide us with a strong preclinical tool to strengthen our knowledge of pathology and advance the development of potential therapies.

If you are interested in the NHP model of carotid arterial stenosis or have any questions about this model, please feel free to contact us for more information. The scientists of Creative Biolabs will assist you in the model utilization and the study design, to make sure your project goes smoothly. We are your trustworthy CRO partner.
