What is Arrhythmia?

Arrhythmia, characterized by abnormal heartbeats, can occur alone or along with other cardiovascular diseases. The prognosis of an arrhythmia is related to the etiology, progression, and whether it leads to severe blood flow disorder. This disease can cause heart failure by gradually involving it or sudden death due to sudden onset.

Preclinical Tools for Arrhythmia Research

The development of anti-arrhythmic drugs is of great significance, and the establishment of a suitable model is a prerequisite for developing new drugs. The arrhythmia can be replicated in vitro by the perfusion of an isolated heart or a certain part of the heart. The arrhythmia can also be replicated in vivo using live animals. The animals most commonly used in research are mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, cats, pigs, goats, and NHPs. The present arrhythmia in vivo models includes models of bradyarrhythmia, models of tachyarrhythmia, models of atrial flutter/fibrillation, models of ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation, models of atrioventricular block, and models of respiratory sinus arrhythmia.
